Project

The Z-Disc is an electron dense structure found in skeletal and cardiac muscle cells and is important for providing stability to the sarcomere and conducting mechano-transduction. To better understand this structure, my project involves isolating Insect Flight Muscle Z-Discs from Lethocerus and/or Drosophila and collect data to generate a 3-D image. Knowing the structure could lead to better understanding of muscular disease.

Cryo-EM is a strong tool to study macromolecular structure. I used to work on some icosahedral capsid structure in single-particle field. Now I’m using cryo-Electron Tomography to study the structure of Myosin V, trying to understand the relationship between the structure and functions. And I have interest in Insect Flight Muscles(IFM).
