The Z-Disc is an electron dense structure found in skeletal and cardiac muscle cells and is important for providing stability to the sarcomere and conducting mechano-transduction. To better understand this structure, my project involves isolating Insect Flight Muscle Z-Discs from Lethocerus and/or Drosophila and collect data to generate a 3-D image. Knowing the structure could lead to better understanding of muscular disease.
